An Unlikely Start

An unlikely beginning for the Harvey's Groves Company was first started out with Roy and Blanche Harvey on a road trip from Cleveland to Miami. Their vehicle broke down and they didn’t have the funds to fix it. Although it sounds like something out of a comedy play, it’s true. The Harvey’s were mesmerized by tantalizing tastes of the sweet citrus fruit grown in the area. They decided to make this place home bought a seven acre grove to begin with. They started out with a humble roadside fruit stand just along the highway and business grew from there.

Committed to Reinvest

As Harvey's Groves grew in business, George and Jannetta, a niece and nephew of theirs came to help out. In a savvy business move, both couples agreed to take a very minimal amount out of the business to cover their absolute necessities and the rest was reinvested to make Harvey's Groves an unstoppable force. Their meager living was only $25 per week. Although this was clear back in the 1920’s, it still was living thin.

Their efforts would pay off for Harvey's Groves in the long run. The family company ended up purchasing even more property right next to the famous Indian River. The Indian River is known for its perfect combination of nutrient-rich earth and calm, warm weather. This combination proves to provide some of the world’s best citrus growing properties. Due to this business move, Harvey's Groves grew even bigger for about 40 years.

The Family Legacy

Roy and Blanche let their niece and nephew take over the business when they retired. This was also a great move for Harvey's Groves as George, the new owner, took his job seriously. He jumped right in making as many innovative changes as possible. He entered Harvey's Groves fruits into local competitions with which Harvey's Groves ended up winning over 200 first place ribbons. Quality has been the first priority of Harvey's Groves since their humble road cart beginnings.

Having kept it in the family, Harvey's Groves continues to be one of the successful family-owned fruit basket companies in the area. Striving to keep the tradition of excellence with Harvey's Groves continues with the rest of their family.
