He and his family left their home not long after the destruction of the Civil War to Florida’s famous citrus groves.

The unfortunate and rather devastating freeze that hit many of Florida’s Citrus groves convinced the Captain’s son to move the family and the business of Albritton Fruit Company further south. The Captain’s son, also named Thomas, decided to lead them to Sarasota. Once there, the family business quickly adapted to growing citrus successfully. Many agreed they were considered specialists on the subject of citrus growing. This served them well as they continued to build the Albritton Fruit Company.
