Harry and David prides itself in making many of their candies, bakery items, cheeses, etc. themselves. Unfortunately that has probably led to a steady decline in the quality of these items as they are responsible only to themselves and their share holders who are constantly insisting on better margins. I like the fruit basket vendors who go out and find award winning gourmet items that are best in their class instead of trying to make everything themselves. For example, the chocolate covered cherries tasted like red food coloring, the lemon cake was dry and lacked any real flavor, and the nuts, cheeses and summer sausages were grocery store quality at best. Their Moose Munch was enjoyable, but nothing gourmet. My favorite gourmet item was their Honey Hot mustard which I used to give flavor to the cheeses and summer sausage. I found myself going to the cabinet to find some crackers to eat with them since the basket didn't have any.
